Million Men: Why Christ, the Wounded Shepherd is our Hero. Who Will You Be?
The New April Issue of The Heroic Man Magazine is out!
Be the Heroic man
Heroic Men’s vision of “No Man Left Behind” is a vision of spiritual multiplication. God calls us in Genesis 1:28 to “be fruitful and multiply”.
The fulfillment of this and our call to action happens when Jesus commissions us in Matthew 28:19 to “GO” and make disciples.
We are called to be world changers by moving out of our comfort zone and engaging with others. We are called to be more than just disciples who follow Christ, but to be men of action who are disciple makers.
We are calling all men to be Heroic! We are calling men to live out this call to action by joining our pledge to reach one million men by 2033. These 1 million disciples will continue to multiply by simply doing what you do today.
This issue of The Heroic Man magazine outlines your invite to be Heroic—to be a man who changes the world by following the simple steps of the Pledge.
Invite every man you know to join the pledge. If you are part of a men’s group, invite them to join. If you are not part of a group, let us help you find one.
We are inviting all of my brother Knights of Columbus to take the Heroic Pledge and join us in changing the world.
What will our country look like in 2033 if we have strengthened one million heroic men, who strengthen one million families, who then strengthen their churches? That would truly transform the culture.
The time is now! Will you pledge to be the Heroic Man that God has called you to be?

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Wounded Shepherd, Wounded Warrior
The figure of the Shepherd who abandons the ninety-nine in search of the lone, lost sheep, fascinates me. Because to the people of the time, it was an eye-opening idea.
In Luke, Christ is talking with crowds of people who are used to being ignored, over-taxed, and crushed by constant pressure from tyrannical governors, kings, and a scrupulous priest-class.
Christ was different. He was a rugged man. He had to be. He’d spent most of his life in hard labor as a carpenter or tekton, and intense education in the Scriptures. During his ministry years, he was on the road all the time, frequently without somewhere to rest his head.
We should imagine a muscled man with sun-burned skin, callused palms, bleached hair, and blistered feet from weeks walking. This was no owlish pushover. The crowds took one look at him, and agreed he was ‘warrior-king material, fit to lead a revolution and restore the glory of God’s people.
This man’s man showed us that average people are more humane to our animals on the Sabbath, than we are to each other during the week. How is it possible that we are more humane than God? We can’t be. Something went wrong somewhere. He called us to be more than merely humane to each other. We need a new vision of God, because God leaves no man behind.
When any sheep separates off from the herd, either from sickness, dumb decisions, or edged out by predators, Christ reminds us that any shephered would do whatever it takes to find that sheep... until he finds it. Failure isn’t an option.
When it comes to us, God’s beloved children, there was no way a shepherd was more humane than God the Father. Christ turned the world upside down with story and sacrament to show us that this is who He is: the Good Shepherd.
Wounded for us, Christ shows the kind of tenacity, grit, and white-knuckled resilience in the face of extreme adversity... the sisu (Finnish) we admire.
This is why men like us leave no man behind. We’ve already pledged this in our hearts. This magazine issue is about making our pledge into a plan, and a mission. We must be Good Shepherds too.
