Let’s talk about something we all feel at some point—maybe you’re feeling it right now. That sense that you were made for more… but you have no idea what that “more” is.

It’s not that your life is falling apart, necessarily. It might actually be pretty stable. But deep down, there’s this restless itch. Like, “Is this really it?” And you don’t want to admit that out loud because it sounds ungrateful or dramatic. But it’s there.

Let’s talk about Luke Skywalker. We all know the name.

We all know he becomes this legendary Jedi hero who helps save the galaxy. But that’s not where his story actually starts. Luke’s story doesn’t begin with the Death Star or with the lightsaber. It starts with that one quiet moment in the desert. Twin suns setting. Luke walks out of the house, looks up at the sky, and something in his face just says it all.

He’s trapped.

He’s stuck in this small life on this dry rock of a planet. He’s surrounded by people who are just trying to survive, people who want him to keep his head down, do the job, stay in line, and not expect too much out of life.

And Luke feels this ache that he can’t name. He doesn’t know what he wants, exactly. He just knows it isn’t this.

Hero Theory is built on the idea that every heroic life starts not with some grand gesture, but with 20 seconds of courage. Just 20 seconds where you make one uncomfortable choice that changes your trajectory.

For Luke, that moment shows up with a bang—when he finds his aunt and uncle murdered and their home burned to the ground. He knows nothing will ever be the same.

He could try to rebuild the farm. Or hide out in the desert. Or get new work in Mos Eisley.

But he doesn’t. He leaves, trusting in his new mentor, Obi Wan. He has no idea what’s coming next. No map. No plan. No promise that this will lead anywhere good.

And it’s that moment—not his later heroics—that starts the adventure of the rest of his life.

That’s where I want to camp out today.

Because I think a lot of guys are living in that same exact space.

Maybe you didn’t grow up on a sand planet, but maybe you feel like you’re just going through the motions. Wake up. Do the job. Check the boxes. Play it safe. And somewhere in your chest is this whisper that won’t shut up. “There’s more.”

And yeah, maybe part of you feels stupid for even thinking that. Because life is fine, right?

You’ve got food. A bed. A working phone. Maybe you even have a plan someone gave you. But it’s not enough.

You’re waiting for something—anything—to break through and give you a reason to move.

But here’s the thing. No one’s going to show up in robes and hand you a lightsaber and say, “Hey, it’s your time now.” That’s not how real life works.

You don’t get chosen. You choose. You decide when the old life ends. You decide when to say yes to that ache inside you. And most of the time, that choice is going to feel stupid and small and like it won’t lead anywhere. That’s why most people don’t make it.

But Luke did.

He didn’t get his mission handed to him. He just acted. He didn’t feel ready. He wasn’t confident. He was basically a clueless teenager with no people skills. But he said yes anyway. And that’s what opened everything else up.

So here’s the question for you: what’s your version of that burned-out homestead?

What’s the thing in your life right now that’s quietly falling apart? That friendship, that job, that plan that you thought would work but just… isn’t?

Maybe you’ve been trying to ignore it. Or hold it together. Or wait for the perfect alternative to show up. But what if all you needed was 20 seconds of courage? Just enough to say, “I’m not going back to what’s safe. I don’t know what comes next, but I know I can’t stay here.”

That’s the theory. That the pivot point doesn’t come when you feel strong. It comes when you act while you still feel small. That’s where all heroic lives begin.

And look, I’m not saying go quit your job today or end your relationship or blow up your life. That’s not the point. The point is learning to recognize that moment—the one where your old way of being no longer fits. The one where something deeper is calling you forward. That’s the moment we’re practicing for.

It’s called the micro-yes. Every day, say yes to one small, inconvenient thing that stretches you just a little.

Maybe it’s texting the person you’ve been avoiding.
Maybe it’s getting up 30 minutes earlier to think or journal.
Maybe it’s signing up for something that makes you nervous.
Maybe it’s finally having that conversation that’s been weighing on you.

Just one thing. Every day.

Don’t wait until you feel like a Jedi. Don’t wait until it’s easy. That’s not how any of this works. If you want to be the kind of man who shows up when it matters, you’ve got to start showing up in the small, private moments that no one claps for.

And when you do that consistently—when you say yes to those moments, day after day—you become someone who doesn’t flinch when it’s time to act.

You don’t need the perfect plan or the full picture. You just need to know how to say yes when it counts.
